Primal Dub 2 (RSD 25)

Primal Dub 2 is the second solo album by MaL, a leading music producer and DJ of PART2STYLE, one of Japan’s iconic bass music crews.

MaL’s first solo album, Primal Dub, was created while he was hospitalised due to an accident and was released in 2022 from Hoodish Recordings. Although it was an instrumental album, it reached No. 1 on the iTunes reggae chart and received high acclaim worldwide.

Now, the long-awaited sequel, Primal Dub 2, will be released for the first time on vinyl!

In addition to the mellow and gentle dub sound from his previous album, MaL’s dub mix has been refined in Primal Dub 2, satisfying listeners who enjoyed the first record.

One of the highlights of Primal Dub was the participation of MaL’s elder daughter on trumpet. Now, Primal Dub 2 features MaL’s younger daughter on alto saxophone and vocals.

While the concept of incorporating reggae, lovers rock, and dancehall into a soundtrack for daily life through dub remains consistent with the previous album, the music and sound have evolved even further. The cover art is by Best Match Corner, who continues to light up the Tokyo underground scene.

MaL is one of Japan’s leading music producers, focused on dub and bass music. He has written and produced numerous songs for other artists and has been professionally active for about 30 years. MaL was invited to perform at the OUTLOOK FESTIVAL in Croatia for nine consecutive years. He also played regularly as a DJ in Bristol, UK, for about 10 years until 2019.

Now, he looks forward to seeing his second solo album, Primal Dub 2, reach music fans in the UK via Record Store Day UK.
