Algiers is a politically conscious indie trio combining post-punk and no wave elements with raw blues, gospel, and even early industrial music. Their self-titled 2015 debut on Matador garnered positive notice in the U.S. and across Europe. Subsequent efforts, The Underside of Power, There Is No Year, and Shook, elicited widespread acclaim, with some critics labelling their sound "dystopian soul."
