A composer who successfully made the transition from high-profile rock drummer to Grammy-nominated film scorer, Cliff Martinez played for the likes of Captain Beefheart, Lydia Lunch, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the '70s and '80s before becoming more closely associated with typically unsettling, keyboard-based music for films like Sex, Lies & Videotape (1989), Traffic (2000), and Drive (2011). He worked frequently with director Steven Soderbergh after breaking into the medium with Sex, Lies & Videotape, also the director's feature debut.
