David "Fathead" Neman was the personification of tasteful but expressive and bluesy sax playing, first backing Ray Charles and later as a solo artist. Ellis Marsalis was a custodian of jazz tradition, his influence as an inspirational figure, educator and spokesman is unrivalled. A veteran of over 2,500 recording sessions, guitarist Cornell Dupree worked most prolifically in R&B and blues, but he was equally at home in jazz, particularly funky fusion and soul-jazz.
