Making his full-length recording debut under the East India Youth handle in 2014, U.K. musician William Doyle spun a meld of Krautrock, ambient, and Berlin-era Bowie influences through contemporary London club culture with Total Strife Forever. The album received accolades including a Mercury Music Prize nomination, and Doyle made one more record under the alias before deciding to diverge from the project and record under his own name. A handful of ambient instrumental albums, including 2016's the dream derealized, followed over the next several years before Doyle presented Your Wilderness Revisited in 2019. A set of compositional, psychedelic-leaning art rock that reintroduced Doyle's voice, it included an appearance by key influence Brian Eno. His sixth William Doyle album, Great Spans of Muddy Time, followed in 2021 with an ambitious, cinematic mix of songs and instrumentals.
