Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Jackie DeShannon began her musical journey singing gospel at home and in church as a child in Kentucky, later transitioning to country music in her teens on her own weekly radio show. By the late 1950s, she had embraced rockabilly, but her career truly took off when she moved to Los Angeles in the early 1960s, signing with Liberty Records and its publishing arm, Metric Music. There, she collaborated with songwriting legends such as Sharon Sheely, Randy Newman, Jack Nitzsche, and Jimmy Page.
Her recordings from this era initially leaned toward rhythm and blues before evolving into folk, West Coast country rock, and the signature Southern California sound. As a staff songwriter for Metric Music, Jackie recorded countless demo tracks, many of which have remained officially unreleased—until now.
Covering the years 1966-67, LOVE FOREVER features over a dozen demos that showcase Jackie’s shift toward a more introspective songwriting style. While she achieved major hits with What the World Needs Now Is Love and Put a Little Love in Your Heart, these recordings offer a more personal, reflective side of her artistry. Accompanied by recollections from Jackie herself and photographs from her private collection, LOVE FOREVER provides a deeper look at an evolving artist on the cusp of new creative heights in the 1970s.
Most of these tracks will be new even to longtime DeShannon fans! This Record Store Day exclusive is pressed on limited edition Valentine red with white swirl vinyl, limited to just 1,250 copies. Includes an insert with liner notes by esteemed rock historian Richie Unterberger, drawn from an interview with Jackie.
