Swell Maps – The John Peel Sessions is pressed on limited edition red vinyl for Record Store Day 2025. Remastered and officially available for the first time in over 40 years.
Noisy, chaotic, and defiantly experimental, Swell Maps never achieved mainstream success, but their influence on music is undeniable. They inspired bands like R.E.M., Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Pavement, and Nirvana—Kurt Cobain was famously a fan, often seen wearing a Swell Maps T-shirt.
A true democracy within punk’s DIY ethos, members Biggles Books, Jowe Head, and brothers Nikki Sudden and Epic Soundtracks helped shape post-punk and underground music. Now, for the first time in over four decades, The John Peel Sessions compiles all three of their legendary BBC sessions recorded for John Peel, the influential DJ who championed their sound.
